After the ridiculously cool Melchior robot clock presented a few weeks ago during Baselworld, it was only a matter of time before MB&F came out with their next machine. Afterall, it is the independant brand’s 10 year anniversary!

Almost a polar opposite to the Melchior, MB&F presented two new limited editions of their Legacy Machine LM101 with a very traditional choice for movement decoration that recalls the golden age of horology in centuries past, and that’s the frosted finish. Meet the LM101 Frost edition, in red and yellow gold.

In either red or yellow gold, the MB&F LM101 Frost features a frosted finish dial (or the movement plate to be precise) and movement in a matching tone. The frosting gives a rich, grained texture that is neither reflective nor entirely matte, scintillating in just the right way.

The texture is much more pronounced than a sand or bead blasted surface, with clear indentations throughout. This is because of the way frosted finishes are hand-applied, using a wire brush and so that the metal is burnished without being removed.

The color-matched frosted finish continues to the movement’s bridges, making the meticulously polished sinkholes and screwed gold chatons as well as the beveled and polished edges that much more striking. Even the trapezoid bases for the balance bridge are frosted!
